Mrs. Fertun Mehdi, The ESRS Water Resource Development Bureau Head has been nominated as the new Ethiopian Somali Democratic People’s Party’s Office of the Central Committee Head.
Her nomination is seen as a move to strength the structure of the Ethiopian Somali People’s Democratic Party (ESPDP), the current ruling party in the Ethiopian Somali Regional State. The ESPDP has achieved many significant successes in the areas of peace, development, good governance and poverty reduction in the region and is looking for ways to improve the inner workings of the party to deliver the ambitious GTPII and the Sustainable Development Goals of the Region. That is why the nomination of Mrs. Fertun Mehdi is crucial at this juncture.
Fertun Mehdi is the current Water Resource Development Head and a member of the ESDP’s Central as well as Executive Committees. She is also the chairwoman of the Sustainable Development Goals Board that oversees the regions mega development projects. She will have a Vice Presidential Portfolio with her new role as the Head the Party Central Committee Office.
Fertun Mehdi epitomizes the regions effort to involve women in the highest decision making process and close the gender gap. She is a symbol of women’s empowerment in the region that is championed by the Ethiopian Somali People’s Democratic Party and driven by President Abdi Mohamud Omer.
She is a force behind the regions current ongoing transformation in terms of infrastructure development and social services improvement. She has also played a crucial role in the efforts to ensure the supply of safe drinking water across many parts of the region.
She is a strong woman who has shown courage, agility and adaptability in what has been a man’s world for a long time. She is a trend setter and a model for our young girls and daughters that they can play an indispensable role in their region’s development and progress. She makes a lot of people proud.
I congratulate her and wish her all the best in this new assignment in which I am confident she will excel and surpass any expectations. She will bring her long tested experience in problem solving and management to further the mission of ESPDP.
