The Ethiopian and Somali Regional Government have claimed that the Somali Government Paramilitary Force, A.K.A Liyou Police, have carried an operation that resulted in the killings and the capture of some senior ONLF operatives and fighters.
Among those captured was Ahmed Ismael (a.k.a. Ahmed Deri), the logistics head and Shek Deeq a notorious rebel commander of the so-called Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) who has personally terrorized and caused so much carnage and horrific atrocities against innocent people for many long years.
The ONLF unit was ambushed by the Liyou Police while crossing into the country through the southeastern border with Somalia on Monday night, July 25th according to the statement from the government.
The operation was the result of a long reconnaissance and intelligence gathering operation that was carefully planned and executed to deal a heavy blow to the rebels that was a longstanding obstacle to the region’s security according to government sources gathered by the Herald.
The point confrontation with the ONLF unit was in Shabelle (Gode) zone’s Ferfer district, near the locality of Farajano Kebele, on Monday night at 11pm.
As a result, four ONLF fighters, including the leader of the team, were killed, while three others were captured, the government stated.
